Queen Victoria Night Market... summer begins...

We have just had an hilarious evening!!

As innocent market-goers we wandered up the street to Queen Vic Night Market and headed straight for the food stalls... our intention - to get dinner!! There was so much to choose from, so we started with a glass of wine... Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Mexican, Greek, Italian and Chips (with a variety of dips). There were also loads of stalls offering sweetness and light... strawberries and chocolate, nougat, cherries... all sorts... it was very difficult to choose.

I eventually chose a steak burrito stuffed full with spanish rice, mixed beans, salsa, sour cream and salad... ye-ummm. It was good, but too much!! Oh how full I was. (to explain... I shoul probably mention that we've been living on porridge and pasta for quite a while now... so this food was heaven!!.... I've loved porridge all my life, but after this trip I might not eat it for quite a while... well... unless granda makes his most excellent recipe!!)

... time for another glass of wine...

we meandered around the stalls full of lovely jubblies and managed to refrain from buying anything... hee hee it's kinda hard on a backpacker budget anyway but that's not the point... we controlled ourselves!!!! lol.

Coming out of the market area we saw a bunch of police officers standing around looking like they were about to burst into song... we'd heard someone singing Evanescence earlier... it couldn't have been them could it??? Surely not!!!

Well... the next minute... they burst into song... first up - American Idiot by Green Day - the lead singer was probably in his mid-to-late fifties... and they were all dancing around like eejits - it was highly entertaining!! We were laughing our heads off and just could not pull ourselves away - and the wine might have been taking a little effect... our feet were tapping and everything! The most funny was when they did Black Eyed Peas... I can't remember which one it was but the guy put his police cap on backwards and started rapping and the woman was jumping round all over the place flinging her legs wherever they would go! To add to it all there was a little old lady standing next to me and she was well into it... tapping her foot, clapping her hands... and all with a blue rinse - she was so sweet! A bunch of girls tried to pull her up to dance but she panicked and grabbed me saying that she'd recently had a knee replacement and couldn't afford to fall over dancing!

What a laugh - I have wee video clips, I'll try and put them online soon!

Dawn and I are baffled by the interesting work of the Victoria Police... mostly they are guarding protests and then at other times they are playing as part of the Victorian Police Rock Band - genius!!!
